Marjorie A. Biffar, 62

Marjorie A. Biffar, 62, died on Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. Interment will be in the German Cemetery in rural Bennington.

Marjorie Ann Sass was born September 22, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur and Rosa (Weseman) Sass. Marjorie grew up on the family farm near Bennington where her responsibilities included helping with the farm chores. She enjoyed participating in her 4-H Club, church youth group, her schools Pep Club and choir, and developed her lifetime hobby of sewing.

Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. She attended the Dornacker country school near the farm, Bennington Public Schools, and graduated from Blair High School in 1963. After high school, she attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska for two years.

Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Blair; first living on a farm outside of town, and later in her life moving into town.

Marjorie worked for a time at Mutual of Omaha, volunteered her time at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair, along with the Recycling Center and the Blair Public Library, worked in the cafeteria at the Blair High School, and was a housekeeper at the Crowell Home in Blair. She continued to enjoy sewing, along with doing needlework, crafting, baking, and even decorating wedding cakes with her mom. She was active on the farm for several years before the move to town, and loved animals, especially her dog, Sam. She enjoyed all kinds of music and loved to dance.

Her greatest joys, though, came from being involved in the activities with her four children. From attending baseball and softball games, to being a den mother for the Cub Scouts, or 4-H leader or assistant with the Brownies, Marjorie was always there. December was always a time for special treats from Marjorie, too. She made Santa Claus Sugar Cookies and decorated them with her own special powdered sugar frosting. It was a time consuming process, but she was more than happy to share her treats with family, friends, and co-workers.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Keith Biffar of Blair, Alan and Joy Biffar of Blair, and Kent and Lisa Biffar of Omaha, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Jim Telford of Omaha, six grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law; Lyle and Jannene Sass of Blair, and Victor and Debbie Sass of Omaha, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Hadan-Golden-Reichmuth Mortuary of Bennington is in charge of arrangements.
