In Loving Memory of Julie Bartlett

Julie Bartlett was born January 24, 1986 at 8:42 am. She was a scheduled C-Section. She was a Friday’s child and a beautiful baby girl. Everything was a fine and normal delivery. As Julie got older, she enjoyed many activities. Her first camping trip was at Two Rivers when she was 2 years old. She really enjoyed camping. In 1989, we took a camping trip to Mt. Rushmore.

Julie started taking dance lessons when she was 4 years old. When we moved to Milford, she had to quit dance. It wasn’t until we move to Auburn that she joined a dance class again. She was very excited and showed great interest in her class. Julie switched from dance to gymnastics and advanced each session until she was diagnosed with cancer.

When Julie was diagnosed with cancer she was a very busy girl! Saturdays had gymnastics, Sundays had soccer, Tuesdays had Girl Scouts and Wednesdays had CCD. When Julie was diagnosed, her life changed dramatically.

Julie was diagnosed on April 25, 1995 with Olgioastrocytoma Brain Tumor. She had 4 cycles on intense chemotherapy. In October, upon returning from her “Make a Wish” trip, Julie was diagnosed with another brain tumor. After undergoing another surgery of total removal, Julie went to Rochester for seven weeks of radiation. She made the most of it and really enjoyed being in Rochester. For one thing, she was around a lot of other people going through the same procedure. When we came back home Julie finished her protocol which called for maintenance chemotherapy. Every 3 months Julie had an MRI, which all showed no signs of tumor reoccurrence.

In September, 1996, we celebrated the good news of the MRI by going to a park for lunch. While playing on some playground equipment, she fell and broke her foot. Then one night in February she started feeling bad. We thought it was just the finishing up of the maintenance chemotherapy. On the night of March 31, 1997 she came crying complaining of a headache and numbness around her mouth and nose with just a little pain in her hip. MRI the next morning at the clinic would unfortunately show 3 tumors in her head and 2 in her spine. At that time, Julie never gave up hope. She wanted to do more chemotherapy to try to rid herself of the cancer. She really believed that somehow, someway she would get rid of the cancer. When chemotherapy was not responsive, she tried radiation to the spine. Julie hoped to walk again. She concentrated on eating and drinking right to help herself. She never gave up.

Julie died very peacefully at home, on September 27, 1997.
