Betty J. Pedersen Brown was born February 1, 1923 to Nellie (Shuey) and Ejner Pedersen in Blair. She grew up, attended and graduated from Blair schools, except for one year in Cheyenne, WY. On June 22, 1940 she married John J. Brown and they shared 66 and a half years together. When John was drafted in July of 1942 she followed him to Camp Carson, Colorado. While there she attended Safeway school in Denver and worked at their store in Colorado Springs. When John was transferred to Lawton, OK (Fort Bragg) she followed and again worked for Safeway. She followed him to Leesville, LA for a short stay before she traveled to Clearbrook, MN and worked in the general store until John came home on his way to Japan. They hitched a stock truck to the Twin Cities Stock Yards on the way to see his family. While in the hotel there, the first bomb was dropped. While John went to Newport News for his discharge, she remained in Kansas City. After John's discharge they stopped in Blair to visit friends and never left. Betty worked for Soll Brothers Grocery for 17 years. Her health was failing in 1963, so she stayed home until John was injured in 1969. She went to work for Hinky Dinky when they opened in Blair. Her health was deteriorating and finally she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis since the late 40s. She loved flowers and always had shelves of violets. She collected and fixed up abused dolls and for several years she and John took them to nursing homes. She devoted her life to the love and care of her beloved John.

She is preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and step-father.
