Dennis Montira Sr., 67, of rural Chappell died unexpectedly and peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 20 at home.

Memorial services will be held at Berea Lutheran Church in rural Chappell, NE on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial services will also be held at First Lutheran Church in Blair NE on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00. Dennis' cremains will then be taken back to Hawaii.

Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is handling local arrangements.

Dennis Carlos Montira Sr. was born on September 1, 1948 in Hilo, Hawaii to Arcadio (Jack) and Angeline (Fileteo) Montira. Dennis attended grade school at Kapiolani School until the family moved to Oahu in the early 60’s. He attended Campbell High School in Ewa Beach HI. He served in the U.S. Army for more than 6 years, including 2 tours in Germany and 3 tours in Viet Nam.

Dennis and Kathy were married in Lincoln NE on November 16, 1991. They moved to Blair in the summer of 1993 and Dennis began working at the Jensen Well Company several months later. He retired from there in the fall of 2010. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also loved to putz around in the yard and in the garage.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughters Shannon (Jay) Montira-Laumauna, Sherilee (Walter) Saragosa; sons Richard (Darlani) Montira, Larry (Leialoha) Montira, Dennis Jr. (Amy Sousa) Montira, all on the Waianae coast in Hawaii; Stephen (Nikki) Colborn of Tekamah NE, Chris Colborn and Nolan Montira of Omaha NE; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Barnes of Atlanta, GA, Christine Montira of Ft. Wayne, IN, Debra (Gary) Ellis of Hawaii; brother Norman Montira of AZ; numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Gary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
