E. J. Appleby

E.J. ‘Junior’ Appleby age 93, of Scribner, Nebraska passed away Sunday January 31, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the United Church of Christ in Scribner. Pastor Larry Jirsak will officiate. Burial will follow in the Scribner Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund will be determined at a later date. Junior was born February 4, 1922 in Kennard, Nebraska to Elza Robert and Lessie ‘Farley’ Appleby. He grew up in the Kennard/Bennington area and graduated from Bennington High School in 1940. After high school he worked as a carpenter for many years. He met Elaine Christensen and they were married on June 22, 1951. They lived in Scribner where he farmed until he retired at the age of 65. After he retired, he helped to maintain the farm, loved to garden and spend time with friends. Junior was an avid card player, a member of the United Church of Christ in Scribner, holding several different offices and the Scribner Masonic Lodge #132 in Scribner.

Survivors:
Son – Bob (Phyllis) Appleby of Bartlett, TN.
Daughter – Nancy (Mike) Batenhorst of Sidney, IA.

4 Grandchildren – Catherine & Paul Appleby
Danielle Batenhorst
Chris (Stephanie) Batenhorst and their children Leia and Zane.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife Elaine in June of 2015, son David Allen Appleby, grandson and sister.
