IRENE M. LEWIS, 90

Nebraska native Irene M. Lewis, 90, of Riddle, Ore., died Feb. 2, 2005 at Roseburg Hospital.

Funeral services were held Feb. 6 at Mountain View Memorial Chapel in Myrtle Creek, Ore., with interment at the Roseburg (Ore.) Memorial Gardens.

Irene Marie Lewis was born April 24, 1914, at Bennington, to George and Marie (Mordhorst) Thunn. She lived and grew up on a farm near Fort Calhoun, and then moved to Omaha, where she worked as a telephone operator.

In October 1946, she married John Eckwall. They owned and operated John’s Country Market at Tr-City, Ore., for several years. After his death, she married James Lewis on April 28, 1976.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Pearl Thunn, Omaha, and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husbands, John Eckwall and James Lewis, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helena Thunn, Rose Schmidt, and Louise Peterson; and two brothers, George Edward Thunn and Arthur John Thunn.
