FRANCIS LESNEISKI, 79

Services for Francis Lesnieski, 79, were Friday, September 8 at Lansing, Michigan. Burial was in the DeWitt Cemetery at Lansing, Michigan.

Francis Lesnieski was born December 20, 1915 in Maitland, Missouri. She was referred to as “a giant in the national credit union movement for more than 47 years,” by the Lansing State Journal. She had helped organize ten credit unions during her lifetime.

She was instrumental in starting the Blair Credit Union while affiliated with Kelly Ryan Equipment Company in 1948. She and her husband, Tom lived in Blair until 1955.

She and her husband served as strong forces in developing credit union power. She became manager of the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union in 1957. When she retired in 1988, the credit union had grown to 58,000 members and 137 employees.

She is survived by her children, Rosemary Nye, Kay Irish, Tommye Sue Hansen and Tim; 11 great-grandchildren; 17 grandchildren; her nieces, Phyllis McMullen of Blair and Marilyn English of Colorado; and a nephew, Robert Rasmussen of Herman.
