David E. Smith died at his home in Lincoln last Sunday morning, having been taken sick while working at the collar factory in this city. When he came down to work on Friday, the 13th, he told Mr. Ross he wasn’t feeling well and Mr. Ross advised him to go home on the morning train, which he did. He developed a severe case of pneumonia and died Sunday morning.

The body was brought here for burial yesterday evening by the side of his first wife in the Blair cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. G. B. Warren. He was born in Ohio, Dec. 15th, 1864, and came with his parent, Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Smith, to this city in 1870. He grew to manhood here and married Miss Bertha Paulsen, whose death occurred shortly after. In 1897 he was married to Miss Etta M. Fuller in Fremont, Nebraska, later moving to Lincoln, which has been his home ever since. He was a collar cutter and had worked for one firm for eleven years.

He came here to work for Mr. Ross and had worked but about ten days when he took sick. Besides the wife he leaves his aged mother, who was 80 years old the very day he died. His father died at the soldier’s home at Grand Island Feb. 29th, 1910. He also leaves three sons, Chas., of Guide Rock, Neb., and Frank and Fred, of Guymon, Okla., also four brothers, Jas., of Lyons, Wallace and Lewis, of Fremont, and Will of Bellevue, and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Beachy, of Lincoln.

Remains Are Brought Here

David E. Smith, who came here from Lincoln several weeks ago and accepted a position as cutter at the collar factory, was taken sick two weeks ago and returned to his home at Lincoln, where he died Sunday.

The remains were brought to Blair for burial Tuesday and funeral services conducted by Rev. Warren. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Smith, former residents of this city, and was born in Ohio in 1864, coming to Nebraska in 1870. He was married to Etta May Fuller, March 28, 1897.

Those who accompanied the remains here were: Mrs. Carry Beachy, of Lincoln, James Smith and wife, of Lyons, Wallis Smith, wife and daughter, of Fremont, Lewis Smith, wife and son, of Fremont, William Smith, Bellevue, Orange Smith, Lyons, Mrs. David Smith, wife of deceased, of Lincoln, and Charles Smith his son, of Guide Rock.

The remains of David E. Smith were brought from Lincoln last Tuesday A.M. and buried in the Blair cemetery. Deceased was a son of L.B. and Susan Smith who resided in Blair many years coming here in 1870 when David was six years of age, later along building and living in the place on South street now owned and occupied by Mrs. Peter Gilberson. Deceased’s father died at the Soldier’s Home several years ago and his mother resides with a daughter at Lincoln. David was a cutter in a horse collar factory for a dozen or more years preceding his death. Recently he came to Blair and was employed in the collar factory here and left here 10 days or two weeks ago on account of being indisposed and went to his home at Lincoln where he died last Sunday. He had several brothers and sisters but none of them are living in Blair now, Wallace, an older brother living at Fremont, employed as a locomotive engineer in the C.& N.W. Ry yards at that place.
