CHRIS M. HANSEN FUNERAL RITES

Chris M. Hansen was born October 14, 1836 at Klippinge, Denmark, and passed away at his home in Herman Friday noon February 26, 1937, aged 73 years, 4 months and 12 days.

When he was 17 years of age he came to the United States and located at Blair, Nebraska. Here on February 2, 1887 he was married to Miss Kristine Iverson. They lived at Blair for a few years and then at Kennard. Three years later they moved to a farm southwest of Herman where they lived thirty one years. Sixteen years ago they moved from their farm into town where they have since resided.

To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. They are Viggo of Hooper; George and Harold of Herman; Mrs. Christiana McDougal of Omaha and Mrs. Alice Morrison of Herman; and Mrs. Mary Hansen of Gasville, Arkansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on February 2 of this year. They held open house and more than seventy called to congratulate them. A family dinner was held at noon. All of their children were present except one daughter, Mrs. Mary Hansen of Gasville, Arkansas. Mr. Hansen was enjoying fairly good health at the time. He had been confined to his home about two weeks.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Denmark when he was 14 years of age and has continued in that faith since.

Surviving besides the wife and children are one sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Omaha. Three brothers, John of Rosewell, South Dakota; J. P. and Hans of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Herman Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. T. J. Reese of Blair officiating, assisted by Rev. W. A. Clarke. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Miss Dagmar Olson, L. D. Lowe and J. H. Johnson. Mrs. F. B. Shrader played the piano. The pallbearers were Andrew Beck, Carl Mortensen, H. P. Hansen, Peter F. Christensen, J. B. Jensen and William Adams. Interment was in the Herman cemetery.

CHRIS HANSEN, 73, BURIED AT HERMAN

NATIVE OF DENMARK DIED FRIDAY, THREE WEEKS AFTER GOLDEN WEDDING

Less that a month after he and Mrs. Hansen had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Chris M. Hansen, 73, of Herman, died Friday. He had been ill only a short time.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen had held open house February 2, the date of their 50th wedding anniversary, on which day they were hosts to scores of relatives and friends.

Mr. Hansen was born at Klippinge, Denmark, October 14, 1863, and when 17 years old came to the United States with his parents, moving to a farm near Blair. He was married in Blair to Miss Kristine Iversen, February 2, 1887. To the couple were born three sons, Harold and George Hansen, now of Herman, and Viggo, now a Hooper resident, and three daughters, Mary Hansen of Gassville, Arkansas, Mrs. Christiana McDougall of Omaha, and Mrs. Alice Morrison of Herman. Mrs. Hansen and all the children survive, as do three brothers, J. P. Hansen and Hans Hansen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and John Hansen of Rosewell, South Dakota; a sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Omaha, 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Residents of the Herman vicinity for 16 years, Mr. and Mrs. Hansen had farmed near Kennard for 32 years following their marriage. Mr. Hansen had been a member of the Lutheran Church since he was confirmed in Denmark at the age of 14.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Herman, the Rev. Thomas J. Reese of First Baptist Church, Blair, in charge, assisted by the Rev. A. W. Clarke, Herman Methodist pastor. Pallbearers were J. B. Jensen, Peter F. Christensen, Carl Mortensen, Andrew Beck, William Adams and H. P. Christensen. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery.
