Donald L. Hansen, 68, died Dec. 24, 2004, at his home in rural Fremont.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment will be in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Donald L. Hansen was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Fremont, where he spent most of his childhood years. He lived briefly in Blair and in Kennard.

He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, then entered military service in the United States Air Force, serving from September 1954 until November 1957. After leaving the service, he returned to the Department of Roads, retiring after 44 years. He continued working part time for the department, and also worked for Bill Rhea, hauling alfalfa during the summers.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 854, and American Legion Post No. 20, both of Fremont. He had been a member of the former Lodge No. 26 of the Danish Brotherhood of America.

On Feb. 7, 1958 he married Evelyn K. Axtell in Tekamah. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jason E. Sr. and Amy Hansen of Fremont; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Jon Tank of Fremont, Ora and Damon Watts of Hooper, Christina and Calvin Villwok of Arlington and Valerie and Kevin Burris of Kennard; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Martin Schwanke of Ames; aunt and uncle, Jeanette and Joe Jind of Fremont; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Memorials are suggested to St. Timothy Lutheran Church and the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice program.

Ludvigsen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
