Eugene C. Hansen, 71 died Monday, November 27 at the Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the result of a motor vehicle accident.

Eugene Clark Hansen was born March 1, 1924 in Kennard to Carl and Dorothea Jaspersen Hansen, who are buried in Kennard Cemetery along with their son, Marvin. They lived in the Long Creek school District at one time. He grew up in Tekamah and graduated from high school in 1942.

After high school, he served in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa and the Southern Pacific during World War II.

He married Mary E. Menish in Harlingen, Texas April 2, 1947. They lived in Harlingen, Bartlett, Nebraska, O’Neil, Maine and Litchfield, where he resided at the time of his death.

He worked as a rancher, farmer and later for the Litchfield Cenex. He retired from the U.S. Post Office.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was past commander of the VFW Post No. 4218. He was a member of the VFW, First Marine Corps Division Association and St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Hansen; one grandson, Jess Kranz and two brothers, Marvin and Roger.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Duane Oftedahl of Waseca; Diann and Kavin Dressen of Albert Leal Bonnie and Bruce Wendt of Hammond, Wisconsin and Sue and Joe Feldhege of Cold Spring; eight grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Hansen of Grand Junction, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
