Carol J. Allison, 59

Carol J. Allison, 59, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, in Australia, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at the Wannon Room, Warrnambool Showgrounds, Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia (11 p.m. CST March 1). A memorial service will be held in Blair sometime in April.

Carol Jean Sheets was born Oct. 15, 1951, to George and Berniece Sheets. She graduated from Blair High School with the Class of 1969, and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1975. She accepted a teaching job in Australia in 1975 and taught for 32 years teaching textiles/art for students in grades 7-10th. She was also a year-level coordinator for students at Brauer College while she taught at the school.

Her passion for art started at a young age. She shared that passion with her family, friends and students. Another passion that started at a young age was the love of travel. She studied abroad in Europe while attending college and, after teaching three years in Australia, she traveled around the world with another teacher who became her loving husband. She moved back to Australia and continued her teaching career and started a family. She traveled all over, to Europe, the Middle East, England, Canada, Japan, China, Vietnam, U.S., New Zealand, and Australia.

She is survived by her husband, Greg; children, Luke and Rebecca Allison; mother, Berniece Sheets; sisters, Luann Madsen of Blair, Linda Tiffey of Woodbine, Iowa, and Sally Engebrethson of Benicia, Calif., and their families; brother-in-law, Rob and Chris Allison of Australia and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, George.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Ovarian Cancer Australia, www.ovariancancer.net.au
