Funeral services for Lawrence Hans Hansen were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 18, 1987 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Norman E. Schroeder officiating.

Miriam Sukraw was the organist and Ken Sukraw was vocalist.

Casket bearers were the grandchildren, Ron, Jim and Mike Lee, Susan, David and Albert Splittgerber and Kelly Marie Hansen.

Graveside services were at the Prairie View Cemetery, Kennard, Nebraska. Campbell Funeral Home of Blair was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Hans Hansen, son of Albert and Hulda Elizabeth (Nelson) Hansen, was born July 26, 1904, in Washington County on the family farm near Kennard.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on October 15, 1911. He confirmed his faith at the Lutheran Church in Washington.

Lawrence attended the Respin Grade School. His first year of high school was at Washington and the remaining three years at Kennard, where he graduated.

Following high school he worked with his father on their farm near Kennard.

On April 4, 1934, he was united in marriage to Vera Evelyn Petersen. Two daughters and one son were born in this marriage.

Lawrence and Vera established themselves in farming; continuing until 1972 when they retired. In 1982, they moved to Blair to their present residence.

Lawrence became a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in 1942. He expressed his devotion and witness to Christ in active communing membership through this congregation.

He served on the Respin and Washington School Boards, on the Washington School Boards, on the Washington County Mutual Insurance Board and was a member of the Prairie View Cemetery Association.

Lawrence died March 15, 1987, at Columbia, South Carolina, where he was visiting his daughter Joan and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Hulda Nelson Hansen, one sister, Ella Christiana, and one brother, Everett. He is survived by his loving wife Vera; 3 children, Joan Ellen Splittgerber and her husband Fred of Columbia, South Carolina, Virginia Carol “Ginny” Lee and her husband James of Valentine, Loren Albert Hansen and his wife Monica of Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Susan, David and Albert Splittgerber, Ronald, James and Michael Lee and Kelly Marie Hansen; two sisters, Helen Wrich of Blair and Inez Zeman of Lincoln; nieces, other relatives and many friends.
