Caroline M. Boock, 88

Caroline M. Boock, 88, of Blair, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, in the chapel at Good Shepherd. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Caroline M. Wrich was born July 12, 1919, on the farm south of Kennard to Henry and Meta (Martens) Wrich.

She attended rural Rispin School and rural Washington High School. Her father died when she and her brother were teenagers, leaving the family to manage the farm, so she and her brother took over the farm operation.

On Jan. 30, 1946, she married George Boock of Blair at a Lutheran parsonage in Blair. They lived at the Ackerlund farms near Valley as tenants from 1946 until 1952, when they moved to their own farm northeast of Kennard. Mrs. Boock lived on the farm until 2004, when she moved to Carter House.

Her husband died in September of 1987. During this time, Mrs. Boock continued to operate the farm, raising thousands of chickens. She also worked at a hospital in Omaha, sold eggs on a regular route, milked a cow or two every morning and night, and dressed frying chickens by the dozens.

Socially, she enjoyed playing cards. She organized a four-table pinochle club in 1952, which is still meeting once a month. She was also a member of other ladies card clubs. She loved animals, especially cats.

In later years, she became a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard.

Mrs. Boock had been a resident at Good Shepherd for the last two years.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Wrich, Olga Boock and Ann Sparks, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Emmaus Lutheran Church, or the Nebraska Humane Society.
