Carsten Wrich Dead Another Pioneer Gone

Died Suddenly After Two Days Illness

Accumulated Riches On The Farm

Had Lived on the Same Place Near Kennard for Almost Forty Years

Report reached Blair early Wednesday of the death of Carsten Wrich, a well-known Washington county early day settler. His death occurred at his home on the farm three and one-half miles southeast of the Village of Kennard, where he has lived for nearly forty years, after a sickness of only two days.

Carsten Wrich was a prominent character in Washington County citizenship in his active days, on account of his money making successful methods in farming operations. He came to this country in 1868 and worked for John and Chris Rathman, his worldly possessions aggregating $200. In 1871 he located on the land where he has since lived and acquired a fortune, by investing the proceeds of his farming operations in land, owning at one time, before parceling it out amongst his children, many hundreds of acres and large sums invested in bonds and securities. For nearly a score of years he had been stricken with the loss of sight which came upon him gradually and developed into total blindness before his death.

His age was 83 years and one month. An aged wife survives him, besides three sons, Henry, Hans and Chris, the latter residing on the home place and the two former near by, all prosperous well-to-do farmers, and one daughter, Mrs. J.F. Schultz, who with her husband and family live in Lincoln county, this state. Another son, Claus, died last year.
