Mary “Babe” E. Hansen, 86, of Blair, died May 2, 2006.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May, 5, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Mary Elinor Hansen was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Wakefield to Lawrence and Nettie (Sandahl) Ring. She was baptized Sept. 24. 1919, and confirmed June 24, 1934, at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

She graduated from Wakefield High School in 1937, then went on to the former Luther College in Wahoo, earning her diploma May 1939. In the fall of 1939, she entered Immanuel School of Nurses Training in Omaha and received her diploma in September 1942.

During the years, she worked in nursing at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, before moving to Denver, Colo., in 1946, where she was employed at various doctors’ offices and hospitals. In 1961, she began working at the Veterans Home in Denver, then transferred to Omaha in 1966 to be closer to home and to help with her parents. She retired in 1975 because of a disability.

On May 22, 1976, she married Edward Bernhard Hansen at Augustana Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple made their home in Blair.

Mrs. Hansen was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Blair, Golden Friends, In Betweeners, Mary’s Circle, and put in many hours of volunteer work. She moved to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in November 2004.

She is survived by her stepchildren and their families, Clarice Golden of Omaha, Kenneth and Diane Hansen of Blair; five step-grandchildren and their spouses; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Alice Ring of Anaheim, Calif., nieces and nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; and two brothers, Ralph and Charles.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or First Lutheran Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
