FATAL ACCIDENT

Prof. C. X. Hansen, President of Dana College, received the startling word last week of the sudden death of his father, Nels Hansen of near Lyons.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen and their little 10 year grandson, Raymond Mowry, had just started for town where the horse became frightened and running the buggy against a corner of the corn crib, threw the occupants out. Mr. Hansen was killed instantly while one of Mrs. Hansen’s arms was nearly torn from its socket and several other bad bruises were received about her body. The boy is still unconscious and has concussion of the brain. His life is dispared of at present.

The three unconscious forms were discovered almost immediately by Hansen’s nephew, Walter Christensen.

The funeral of Mr. Hansen was held Saturday, July 20, owing to the late arrival of a son from Washington.

Interment was made at the Oakland Cemetery.

Nels Hansen was one of the earliest pioneers of Burt County. He leaves besides a widow, eight children, Professor Chris X. Hansen, of the Danish college of Blair; John, of the state of Washington; Lawrence, of Omaha; Mrs. Willard Mower, of Bloomfield, Neb.; Mrs. C. J. Hultberg, Mrs. William Peterson, Thomas and Andrew of Lyons. Hansen was 77 years old. His brother Robert Hansen was a member of the state legislature in 1869.
