Gwen Lee Hansen, 72, of Herman, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 28, at the Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery.

Gwen Lee Hansen was born Sept. 11, 1929, in the railroad section house in Kennard to William and Pearl (Wilderson) Harper. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1946 at Kennard High School. She was baptized in the Kennard Methodist Church.

On Jan. 3, 1948, she married Lee Hansen in Papillion. The couple lived in Omaha, and Mrs. Hansen worked for Merchant Biscuit, Tidy House Products, Dana College, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

The couple and their family later moved to a farm in Herman. This was where many nieces and nephews and friends loved to come and spend time with “Uncle Lee” and “Aunt Gwen.” Mrs. Hansen was a member of the Herman Legion Auxiliary and the Blair V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Mike Smith of Herman, and Jan and Terry Stodola of Blair, a son and daughter-in-law, Kieth and Cindi Hansen of Waterloo, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Darlene Harper of Kennard, and Sam and Geraldine Harper of Joplin, Mo., and sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Don Reed of Clear Lake, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lee, and a sister, Patricia.

Memorials are suggested to the Herman Legion Auxiliary.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.
