Howard Dwaine Hansen, 80, of Laurel, Neb., died Wednesday March 11, 1998, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City.

Services were Monday at the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel. Rev. Craig Holstedt officiated. Burial was in the Laurel Cemetery.

Mr. Hansen was born May 8, 1917, on a farm 2 ½ miles north of Logan Center, northeast of Laurel, to Albert and Ida (Holm) Hansen. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Laurel. He attended rural school near Ruthton, Minn. He returned to the Laurel area in 1935. On July 2, 1938, he married LaRoice Jones at Slayton, Minn. They farmed in the Laurel and Belden area until moving into Laurel in 1950. He then worked at the International Harvest Dealership, where he was the shop foreman and mechanic until retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Laurel Senior Center.

Survivors are his wife, LaRoice Hansen of Laurel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Paul Perry of Sioux City and Dianne and Dave Lindstrom of Blair; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ore “Dick” Hansen of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Dorothy Moen of Portland, Ore.; Helen Kumm of Osmond, Neb.; and Glendora “Tottie” Brittell of Laurel; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were David Perry, Michael Perry, Robert Perry, Corey Lindstrom, Carol Bures and Nick Brittell.

Borge Kastrup and Joan Lackas sang. Verjean Heydon was organist.

Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel was in charge of arrangements.
