Funeral services for Robert Louis Hansen was scheduled for Thursday, April 4, 1985 at the Congregational Church of Weeping Water at 1:30 with Pastor Carlson officiating. Prayer Service was Wednesday, April 3 at 8:00 at the Colbert Funeral Home. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Weeping Water.

Robert Louis Hansen was born to Louis and Rosalie Hansen on July 4, 1925 on a farm near Ft. Calhoun. He graduated from Ft. Calhoun High School in 1942 and farmed near there for 10 years. In 1958, he moved to Omaha and became a carpenter. In 1963, he moved to his farm near Weeping Water which he farmed and continued carpentering. In 1967, he established a truck stop on his farm, HiVu, which he managed until 1977 when he returned to farming. Because of his illness, he moved to Omaha in Aug. 1983, where he resided until his death April 1, 1985 at an Omaha hospital.

Bob vas baptized as a Catholic and confirmed in Calvary Lutheran Church in Omaha. After moving to his farm he joined the Congregational Church in Weeping Water and was proud of the Sunday School room he remodeled and the steeple he helped build on the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, brother George and grandson Joshua.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Omaha, sons Randy and Bobby of Weeping Water, Eldon of Louisville and daughter Mrs. Jerry (Sandy) Latham of Omaha. Sisters, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Menkel of Republic, Missouri, Mrs. Lee (Olga) Welch of Raytown, Missouri, Mrs. Victoria Dougherty of Omaha and Mrs. Frank (Betty) Rybin of RR 2, Omaha, 12 grandchildren, stepchildren Steve Douglas of Lincoln, Bill of Wahoo, David of Omaha and Jane Sabotka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Robert L. Hansen, age 81, of Ames, Nebraska died Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

He was born June 18, 1935 in Fremont to Harry and Ruth (Shrein) Hansen and grew up on the farm northwest of Fremont in the Ames area. He attended Hay Valley School, K through 6th grade, then attended Trinity Lutheran in Fremont for his 7th and 8th grade, and graduated from Fremont High School in 1953 where he was a star football player. He began farming with his father, and hauled milk for Roberts Dairy. A short time later he went to work for Hormel’s, where he worked nearly 40 years, while continuing to farm. On December 19, 1954, he was married in Trinity Lutheran Church to Meredith Nelsen, and they have lived on the Hansen farm in the Ames area since 1973.

Survivors: wife Meredith; daughter Kim Neisius of Fremont; son Chad (Barbara) Hansen of Blair; 6 grandchildren: Chris (Sawnya) Andersen, Beth (Ray) Howard, Sarah (Hugh) Kam, Laura (Dan) Green, Logan Hansen and Keel Hansen; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; his beloved black lab companion, Joe.

He was preceded by his parents Harry and Ruth, and brother William Hansen, and son-in-law Daniel Neisius.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and the Dodge County Humane Society.
