Obituary in Funeral Leaflet

Walter Leroy Hansen was born January 16, 1914 in Irvington, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm operated by his parents, Hans and Alice Hansen. Walt attended Wranch School while also helping work on the farm with his father. His mother was so grateful for Walt’s assistance on the farm. She often said if Walt hadn’t stayed home to farm during the hard times, they never would have made it. He met Lillian Schmidt and they married on August 7, 1940. They established their home on the Hansen property. They later moved into their home on the farm in 1953. Walt continued to farm, raising cattle, hogs, and crops. He and Lillian had 3 children, Howard Walter in 1941, Betty Arlene in 1943, and Dale Leroy in 1945. Betty tragically preceded him in death in her infancy. He was honoree the Nebraska Pioneer farm award by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben for continuing ownership within the same Nebraska farm for 100 years or more.

Walter was a member of the Blair Eagles Club, Farm Bureau, Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gathering with friends, playing cards, and fishing. He also enjoyed his growing family, especially his children and great-grandchildren.

Walter passed away on January 3, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Alice Hansen, his sister Alice Kroeger, his brother Harvey Hansen, his daughter Betty Hansen and granddaughter Amy Jo Hansen. He is survived by his family, nieces, nephews and friends.
