2nd obituary: Printed in the Thursday, September 22, 1927 Enterprise, Blair, Nebraska

This community was grieved and shocked when word reached here of the death of Clayton Smith, which occurred at the Swedish Mission hospital Wednesday night. On Monday he underwent an operation from which he failed to rally, despite the best medical aid and care. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and little daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Smith of California, five sisters and two brothers, besides other relatives and a host of friends who will sadly miss him. Everyone was his friend. His mother and one sister came from California the week prior to his operation, to be with him. His father arrived Sunday in time for the funeral, which was held at the Presbyterian church here, of which he was a member, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. A.R. Vanderlippe of Florence officiated. Messrs. O.P. Brown and M.R. Cady sang several selections with Mrs. O.P. Brown at the piano. The Masonic lodge had charge of the ceremony at the cemetery. This was the largest funeral in attendance ever held in Calhoun. Clayton was born in Missouri Oct. 23rd, 1895 and would soon have reached the age of thirty-two years. The flowers were beautiful and abundant, testifying the high esteem in which he was held. Relatives from Missouri and Iowa were present. The family and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in this, their great sorrow.
