Lyle E. Stern, age 90, of Omaha, formerly of Blair, died April 28, 2016, at Immanuel Fontenelle Rehab Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2 at 10:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will follow the service in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 1 from 6 to 8 PM at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Lyle E. Stern was born on June 23, 1925, in Seward County, Nebraska the son of Arthur and Jeanette (Boggs) Stern. He graduated from Pleasant Dale School. Lyle married Iona Jean Heikes on May 29, 1955, in Wayne, Nebraska. After the wedding the couple made their home in Valley, Nebraska, where Lyle owned and operated Stern’s Standard Station. In 1960 the couple moved to Blair, where later, Lyle worked at Vinton Motors and then Blair Community Schools until his retirement.

Lyle was a member of the Blair Spinning Wheels Square Dance Club. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and playing in an over 50 softball league. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Lyle is survived by his daughters, Nancy Hart of Omaha and Connie (Randal) Petersen of Omaha; grandchildren: Jessica Petersen of Omaha, Corey (Bobbie Lea) Petersen of Elkhorn, and Kiley Petersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great-grandsons, Chase Petersen and Sawyer Petersen; sister, Dorthy Carver of Broomfield, Colorado; sister-in-law, Rayoma (Kermie) Andrews of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iona; son-in-law, Andrew Hart; brothers, Raymond and Bernard; sisters, Letty Mundt, Bonnie Bargman, Violet Graff and Dorothy Lasley.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church of Blair.
