Cooper Hanson, 44, of Blair, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Memorial Community Hospital Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 22, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment was at the Blair Cemetery.

Howard Cooper Hanson III was born June 7, 1956, at Wahoo to Howard C. and MaryMaude (Bedford) Hanson. The family moved to Blair in April, 1957. He attended Blair Community School, graduating in 1974. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1978.

While at the University, he worked actively in his Sigma Nu fraternity, the UNL Scarlet and Cream Singers, doing their sound and lighting, and with the UNL Campus Police.

His work history included Blair Bank, Omaha National Bank, Creative Financing, Blair Police Department, and Great Western Bank, where he had attained the title of Vice President of Operations, overseeing bookkeeping, data operations, security and ATM operations.

Mr. Hanson’s community involvement included the Blair Kiwanis Club, doing the sound and lighting for local and state Junior Miss pageants, and he was a co-founder of the Blair Community Theater.

He was active in the order of DeMolay where he attained the rank of Master Counselor. He was awarded the Medal of Valor in DeMolay in 1974 in recognition of his efforts for saving his father’s life from attackers in their home.

He had a love of law enforcement work which continued after college as he served as a reserve police office in the Blair Police Department.

He was united in marriage with Margaret Lammers Beck on May 27, 1995, in Blair.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, children, Jonathan Cooper Hanson, Jenna Elizabeth Hanson, and Jennifer JoyLynn Beck, all of Blair, his father, Howard C. Hanson Jr. of Deerfield Beach, Fla., sisters, Rebecca Engler of Lincoln, Suzanne Lawson of Mahopac, N.Y., brother, Craig Hanson of Oxford, England, and a wide circle of friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, MaryMaude Wion.

Cooper was a child of God.

Memorials are suggested to the Omaha Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Fremont Church of the Nazarene, or the Blair Rescue Squad.
