Mrs. Jacob J. Smith died very suddenly yesterday morning of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was feeling better than usual Monday and went to call on a neighbor yesterday morning. She arose as usual and was brushing her hair before the mirror when her husband heard her gasping for breath. He assisted her to a couch and called a doctor but she passed away a few minutes later, before the doctor arrived. She leaves, to mourn her departure, her husband, J.J. Smith, a son, Howard E. Smith, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, a daughter, Mrs. Geo. Badgerow, of Blair, two sisters, Mrs. A.H. McCreey, of Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Mary Maxfield, of Marshallfield, Ore., and a half-brother, David P. Handy, of Power, Ore. The funeral services will be held at the Baptist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, Rev. C.M. Foreman officiating. Catherine Haney was born in Buffalo, N.Y., March 8, 1851, and was therefore almost 65 years of age. When she was only three years of age her parents moved to Wisconsin and from there to Blair, Nebraska in 1872. She was united in marriage to Mr. Jacob J. Smith, Nov. 28, 1877. With the exception of a few years spent in Omaha they have made their home in Blair all these years. She united with the Baptist church of Blair on March 3, 1887 and has lived a faithful Christian life. She was also a member of the Women’s Relief Corps in which organization she did loyal service.
