Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont for Gerhard (Gary) Harms, 94, of Fremont who died January 8, 1991 at Hooper Care Center. Rev. Donald Levenhagen will officiate with burial in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 10 from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont.

Gerhard (Gary) Harms was born December 5, 1896 in the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church at rural Bancroft where his father was a pastor. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and Concordia College at St. Paul, Minnesota.

He farmed near Bancroft, Lyons, Tekamah, Fontanelle, Fremont and Granada, Minnesota. He retired there is 1968. He moved to Fremont in September, 1982.

He served on the Granada School Board. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow and was the first president of their Lutheran Layman’s League. At the time of his death, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He married Wilma Stevens from Wagner, South Dakota March 24, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William and Augusta Harms; four brothers, Rev. John Harms, William Harms, Martin Harms and Rev. Theo Harms; and two sisters, Dorothea (Mrs. Theodore) Eggert and Lydia (Mrs. Otto) Pinnt.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; two daughters, Judie (Mrs. Leroy) Pankratz, Lakewood, Colorado and Glee (Mrs. Robert L. Johnson of Nickerson; one son, Steven G. Harms of Fremont; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Elizabeth Pagels of West Point.

Memorials may be given to Bethesda Childrens Home, Watertown, Wisconsin.
