Wilma L. Harms, 96, of Fremont, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Fremont Area Medical Center

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1440 E. Military Ave., in Fremont, with interment in Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

She was born March 24, 1910, at the Ark of the Covenant in Sioux Falls, S.D. As an infant, she was adopted by Vern and Nellie Stevens of Wagner, S.D. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church, and attended and graduated from high school in Wagner.

On March 24, 1931, she married Gerhard Harms at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Bancroft. They were married by the groom’s father, the Rev. Wilhelm Harms. They farmed at Bancroft, Lyons, Tekamah, Fontanelle, and Fremont, and at Granada, Minn. In 1982, they moved to Fremont.

Mrs. Harms was an Extension clubs member, 4-H leader, choir member, and Sunday School teacher. She worked in quality control at Fairmont Canning Co. of Fairmont, Minn.; as a sales clerk at Georgia’s (women’s clothing store); housekeeper for Wentworth; and was a hospital volunteer both a Fairmont and at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Her hobbies were quilting, gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, sewing and traveling.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Vickie Harms of Fremont; daughters and sons-in-law, Glee and Robert Johnson of Nickerson, and Judie and Arthur Cole of Milford, Ontario, Canada; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Leroy and wife, Susan Pankratz of Golden, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard Harms.
