Mable A. Harris, 84, of Blair, died Monday, July 31, 2006, in Hermann, Mo.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Mable Agnes (McHugh) Harris was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Pisgah, Iowa, to Cornelius J. and Elizabeth (Wakehouse) McHugh.

She attended Sunny Ridge grade school and graduated from Magnolia High School. She received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She felt privileged to teach at Wakehouse, which her grandfather, Conrad Wakehouse, established. She also taught in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

On June 24, 1946, she married Voyne Ralph Harris at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Pisgah. The couple made their permanent home in Blair where they were members of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.

As a homemaker and mother, Mrs. Harris was involved with her local ladies sodality, extension club, the hospital rummage sale, election board and bridge club. Mr. and Mrs. Harris enjoyed many friendships through these organizations, including the Blair Golf Club. Among her other favorite pastimes were gardening, sewing and baking. Her creativity was evident in every special thing she did.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Morry Hansen of Loveland, Colo., and Constance and Wayne LaBoube of Hermann, Mo.; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Carol Harris of Omaha and Timothy Harris of Berthoud, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford McHugh of Dennison, Iowa; sisters and brother-in-law, Teresa and Clarence Topf of Dow City, Iowa, and Alicia Mahoney of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Voyne, in 1997; a brother, Lawrence McHugh; and sisters, Lucy Perry, Mildred Paseka and Cleta McHugh.

Memorials are suggested to the March of Dimes.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
