Walter W. Henricksen was born June 8, 1913, at home, just west of Fort Calhoun, to Henry and Lizzie (Steffen) Henricksen. His parents moved to a farm 6 miles southeast of Blair in 1917.
He attended Cruickshank grade school and later graduated from Blair High School. He farmed with his parents and his brothers until he married Sophie M. Wrich of Kennard on Jan. 1, 1941. They started farming on their own and later bought a place just north of his parents’ home place.
In 1958, he bought the White Spot Produce business and operated it, along with farming, for several years. After selling the produce business, he worked at Wilkinson Manufacturing at night and continued farming as well.
The Henricksens sold their farm and moved to Blair in 1972. He was hired as a custodian for the newly-built high school. He worked for Blair schools for 14 years. After retiring, the couple traveled a great deal, taking several trips to Europe and many trips in the United States.
The couple belonged to a bowling league in Fremont for many years. They loved to dance and play cards with their friends. Mr. Henricksen was also a member of the Blair Eagles.
He was baptized on Oct. 1, 1915, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair on Jan. 22, 1961.
Mr. Henricksen is survived by his children, Larry Henricksen of Scottsbluff, Lois and Don Lambrecht of Bennington, Linda and Dick Tesnow of Omaha, and Bob and Susie Henricksen of Blair; four grandchildren and their spouses; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie; three brothers, Gustave, Frank and Emil; and a sister, Mayta Detterman.
