Mrs. A.J. Skov Died At Hospital Sunday, Sept. 3

Mrs. Alfred J. Skov, of 605 North 23rd Street, died last Sunday, September 3rd at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Ethel Irene Skov was born July 17th, 1900 at Orum, Nebraska, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. Newkirk. She grew up in Washington County and had spent her entire lifetime here.

As a young girl she was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church at Orum. On December 20th, 1922 she was united in marriage with Alfred J. Skov and the couple spent their active life as farmers. During her lifetime she served as housewife and homemaker for her husband and son.

She became a member of First Lutheran Church of Blair and participated in its activities as long as her health permitted.

She died Sunday at the age of 72 years, one month. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred J. Skov, and by a son, Lyle J. Skov of Wayne, and by two grandchildren, Mrs. Diane Backman, of Des Moines and by Rodney Skov, also of Wayne.

There are four sisters surviving. They are Mrs. Pearl Buchardt, Mrs. Opie Hart and Mrs. Helen Andersen, all of Blair, and Mrs. Hazel Katt, of Arlington. There are several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church Tuesday, September 5th with the Rev. Robert Albers conducting the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were James O. Anderson, Jr., Velmar Katt, Chester Larsen, Harvey McIntosh, Robert Lowe and J. Merton Kuhr.
