Roy Finch, 82, Active Herman Resident Dies

Roy Finch, 82-year-old resident of Herman, died Tuesday at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He had suffered a heart attack and had been taken to the hospital by the Blair Rescue Squad which was called to Herman at noon Tuesday.

As a younger man, he had been engaged in farming, but in recent years he had taken an active part in any community affairs in Herman. He still enjoyed farm work and worked part-time for Ned Tyson.

He was a man who enjoyed his friends, was an inveterate visitor and maintained an active interest in all things which were a public nature in Herman. He was especially interested in celebrations, parades and entertainment, having, at one time, traveled with a circus where he is reported to have doubled as a clown and similar activities.

While living in South Dakota, both Roy and his wife were school teachers.

Mr. Finch was born at Pacton, New York, April 8, 1891. He came to the Herman area many years ago and was probably known by every man, woman and child in the Herman area.

He is survived by his wife, Opal and by two sons and a daughter. The sons are W. Duane Finch, of Blair and Dale Eugene Finch of Eureka, Kansas. The daughter is Mrs. Alvin Wilkening (Dorothy) of Arlington.

There are 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren A brother, Lyman Finch, lives in Kansas. He has three sisters, Mrs. Mary McKinnie, of Kansas, Mrs. Jane Eyer, of Missouri; and Mrs. Edith Scheer, of Ewing, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held in the Herman Legion Hall Friday afternoon, January 25th. The Rev. Zack Kleinsasser will conduct the service. Music will be provided by Grace Husk and Kermit and Dagmar Goll.

Burial will be made in the Herman Cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary at Blair. Pallbearers: George Tyson, Ivan Olson, Tom Loftis, Leonard Loftis, Jr., Wayne Miller and Eugene Husk.
