Roger Fred Hartman died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Canastota, N.Y.

Services were under the direction of Chamberlain-Ciemanec Mortuary.

Mr. Hartman was born June 11, 1953, at Blair to Edward and Thelma (Gehrig) Hartman. He attended public school at Herman and Craig, and at Gordon, Neb., when his family moved to Gordon. His public school education ended in the ninth grade as he was dyslexic. He was a vagabond, a free spirit, always on a walk-about. He went wherever that spirit led him and worked any job that was available from ranches to factories. His travels took him coast to coast and to many states. He was always at the best place to live.

Survivors are his mother, Thelma Hartman and one sister Jerrilyn Malmberg, both of Gordon; one brother, James Hartman, Bertha, Minn.; a son, Shannon Alley and a grandson of Iowa; nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Dick Hartman.

Pallbearers were Roy Trimble, Charlie Schwaderer, Robert Russell, Loren Wilson, Eric Malmberg and John Saxton.

Memorials may go to Wesleyan Gospel Chapel in Gordon.
