Ernest Hass, 80, of Scribner, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer.

Services were Thursday, May 20 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner. Burial was in Scribner Cemetery.

Ernest Hass was born June 6, 1918, to William and Mathilda (Meyer) Hass in rural Washington County.

He attended Stecher School in rural Hooper and worked at Scribner Grain for 29 years as an elevator operator.

On Sept. 17, 1939, he married Lenora Boardman at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, a former member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and an honorary member of the Scribner Volunteer Fire Department.

He also served as church elder and was once on the church council, holding several offices.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora of Scribner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Richard Kuhlman of Omaha and Marilyn and Tom Fantz of Gardener, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law, J. Mark and Lori Hass of Fremont; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Hope Hass of Fremont; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Gilbert; an infant sister; an infant granddaughter, Heather Hass.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the Scribner Volunteer Fire Department.

Spear-Johnson Funeral Home in Scribner was in charge of arrangements.

Ernest G. J. Hass fell asleep in Jesus Monday, May 17, 1999, at which time his soul went home to be with the Lord.

Ernest was born to William and Mathilda (nee. Meyer) on June 6, 1918. He was reborn by God by means of the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit in Holy Baptism on June 28, 1918. By means of baptism, God in His grace, claimed Ernest as His own child granting to him the forgiveness of all sins and faith in Jesus Christ. He was confirmed on June 12, 1932 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winslow, Nebraska.

Ernest was united in marriage to Lenora (nee. Boardman) on Sept 17, 1939 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scribner, Nebraska. God blessed them with the gift of three children: Kathy, Marilyn, and Mark.

Survivors looking forward to the resurrection are: his wife, Lenora; children and their spouses, Kathy and Richard Kuhlman, Marilyn and Tom Fantz, and Mark and Lori Hass; one brother and his wife, Elmer and Hope Hass; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Harvey and Gilbert; one infant sister; and one infant granddaughter, Heather Hass.
