Harriett J. Pitt, 91, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Burial of her cremains will be held at a later date in the Blair Cemetery.

No visitation will be held.

Harriett Jayne Madsen was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Dale to Harold J. and Selma (Hansen) Madsen.

She graduated from Blair High School and, after the death of her parents, became the leader of their large family.

After moving to Cheyenne, Wyo., she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at a bomber plant during the war. She met her husband, William, while working at the plant. They were married on Aug. 30, 1947, in Cheyenne.

Mrs. Pitt starting working for the first J. C. Penny store in Cheyenne. They moved to Denver where she continued to work for J. C. Penny, retiring in 1960. The Pitts lived in Denver for 50 years. She moved back to Blair in 1997.

She is survived by two brothers, Murl Madsen of Mesa, Ariz.; and Bob Madsen of Surprise, Ariz.,; a sister, Lois Donaldson of Henderson, Nev.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, William; brothers, Harold Jr., Charles, Donald, Burl, Jack; and sister, Betty.

Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.
