Bryce T. Hatton, 83

Bryce T. Hatton, 83, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in Tekamah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11 at the Herman Legion Hall in Herman.

Bryce Thomas Hatton was born July 19, 1927, in Omaha to Ross and Irene (Seek) Hatton. He was raised in the Benson area.

He started playing drums with the South Omaha Sons of American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and was also a drummer for a dance band at Benson High School.

He joined the ROTC in high school and enlisted in the United States Navy on Jan. 23, 1945. He was stationed in Guam for WWII. He served on the naval ships USS Achernar, USS Kleinsmith DDE134, and commissioned both the USS Plymouth Rock and USS Kitty Hawk. While on the USS Kitty Hawk, he went around Cape Horn on Oct. 8, 1961. He went from the USS Kitty Hawk to the USS Ranger, from which he retired on Dec. 7, 1964, after serving 21 years, six months, and five days.

He married Sharon Pedersen on February 14, 1969, after they met while working at Campbell's Soup in Omaha.

Mr. Hatton then worked at the Greyhound garage in Omaha, retired, then worked at the Omaha Correctional Center as stationary engineer. He retired from the Omaha Correctional Center in August of 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Hatton, Leslie Hatton, Janice and Rich George, Rebecca and Joe Bradley; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Melissa Hatton; sister, D. Jean Criswell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Gerald Kunold; brother, David Hatton; and granddaughter, Rebecca Sanchez.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survived by wife Sharon; children Margaret Hatton of Council Bluffs, Leslie Hatton of Tennessee, Janice "Kathy" George and husband Rich of Omaha, Rebecca Bradley and husband Joe of Montana, and Brian Hatton and wife Melissa of Omaha, stepchildren Tim Clark and wife Muriel of Washington State, and DeAnna Starcher and husband Dan of Oklahoma. 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. SERVICES 2pm Friday March 11th at The Herman Legion Hall in Herman. Burial in the Herman Cemetery. VISITATION begins 1pm Thursday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6-8pm.
