Louis Gross

Gross died at his home Thursday.

He was born Oct. 6, 1899 in Darlington, Wis., and moved with his parents to a farm near Palmer in 1915. In 1928 he moved to Fremont as a barber, and built the Gross Barber Shop at 523 N. Broad St., in 1938 and continued in business.

He was married to Christine Moravec at St. Paul in 1930.

Gross was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Fremont Barber Union. He was a past president and state director of the Fremont Isaak Walton League and served as financial secretary for Woodmen of the World for more than 25 years. He was one of the founders of the Fremont Optimist Club and a past member of the Bowling Association.

Survivors include his widow, one sister, Mrs. Clarence Bennett of Darlington, Wisc., and five brothers: William, Fred, Frank, Albert and Thomas, all of Darlington, Wisc.

Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church and the Izaak Walton League.

Visitation will begin at the funeral home Sunday at 2 pm.

Note: Izaak Walton was a noted English fisherman and author. In the 1600’s he wrote The Complete Angler. In 1922, the Izaak Walton League was founded to conserve outdoor America for future generations. –internet sources.
