Lura E. Ruwe, 93, of Tekamah, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Tekamah.

Funeral services were Monday, March 14, at Alder Grove United Methodist Church in rural Craig. Interment was at the Herman Cemetery.

Lura Evelyn Hovendick was born Sept. 9, 1917, on a farm in Washington County to Fred and Cora (Lyons) Hovendick.

When she was a little girl, she moved with her family from Nebraska to a sod house near Cheyenne Wells, Colo. Her dad was a farmer and hoped to prosper there. But, after a long period of drought and poor crops, the family returned to Nebraska and began farming in the Herman area. She attended New England country school through the ninth grade.

She was helping a neighbor with some of the household work when she met her future husband, Delmar Ruwe. On August 22, 1943, the couple married at the home of her parents. They had four children. She was a dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Mrs. Ruwe was a member of Alder Grove Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for years.

She had a wide variety of interests. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of books. She really loved to garden, play piano, do all kinds of needlework and sewing, artwork, crafts, and projects of many kinds. She spent a lot of her time helping teach her children and grandchildren to cook, sew, play piano and garden.

She lived her life with kindness, generosity, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to help others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darwin and Barbara Ruwe of Tekamah; daughters and son-in-law, Meridel Funk of Lincoln, Darrylin and Jim Lippincott of Blair, Audrey McElravy of Hagerstown, Md.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret Rennerfeldt of Oakland, Doris and Bob Anderson of Tekamah; sister-in-law, Ruby Hovendick of Tekamah; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar (November 1977); brothers, Roland and Bob; brother-in-law, Jerry Rennerfeldt; sister-in-law, Lucille Hovendick; son-in-law,Steve McElravy.

Pelan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lura E. Ruwe, 93, of Tekamah, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Alder Grove United Methodist Church in rural Craig. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Monday at the church, one hour prior to services.
