FORMER BLAIR MAN KILLED IN CHICAGO PLANE CRASH

FORMER BLAIRITE ON ILL-FATED FLIGHT WHICH KILLED 25

Ronald Hazard, a former Blair man, was among the 25 passengers of a North Central Airlines plane who were killed in a crash at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Friday. Hazard, a graduated of the Blair High School class of 1962, was a student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

The flight, which had originated in Minneapolis, was carrying 41 persons. The airport had been closed because of bad weather and opened only an hour prior to the crash. The plane, coming in for a landing, was reported to have made a sudden dip as though it had hit an air pocket. A wing caught on the ground and the plane crashed into a Braniff Airlines hangar where it caught fire. It burned for an hour before the flames could be extinguished.

Hazard was the son of Mrs. Vernon VanHorn of 2066 Front Street. His father, Philip Hazard, lives at Ravenna, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, who is a native of Chicago, and by a baby daughter, 8 months old. The young family was living in Lincoln where Ronald was about to graduate from a course majoring in electronics. His trip to Chicago was on business, to make application for a job when he graduates.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and father, are two sisters and a brother. They are Mrs. Jeannie Tistaitis, Mrs. Phyllis Jones of Vancouver, Washington and Lloyd Hazard of Imperial, Nebraska.

The body is to be returned to the Campbell Mortuary and burial will be made in the Blair Cemetery. Time of the funeral had not been established when the Pilot-Tribune went to press Saturday noon.

SERVICES FOR RONALD HAZARD WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Ronald Hazard, for 24-year-old Blair man who was killed in an airplane crash at Chicago last Friday, were held Wednesday morning, January 1st at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair.

Hazard, who was about to graduated from the University of Nebraska, had made the trip to Chicago to interview for a position which he had hoped to hold after graduation.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and an 8-month-old daughter, Nadine. His mother Mrs. Vernon VanHorn, lives at 2066 Front Street, Blair; his father, Philip Hazard, lives at Ravenna, Nebraska.

A brother, Lloyd Hazard, lives at Imperial, Nebr. A sister, Mrs. Phyllis Jones, lives at Vancouver, Washington; sister, Mrs. Jane Kistaitis, lives in Omaha. There are two half brothers, Robert VanHorn of Blair and James VanHorn of California.

There was a Rosary at the Campbell Mortuary Tuesday afternoon and burial services were conducted at the church at 12 noon Wednesday, conducted by Father Patrick Nolan. Burial under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary, was made in the Blair Cemetery.
