Services were Tuesday, Dec. 31 at First Lutheran church in Fremont for Leonard Luschen, 89 of Fremont and formerly of Bennington, who died Dec. 27, 1996 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Rev. David Jensen and Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Burial was in Flower Hill Cemetery south of Bennington.

Leonard Luschen was born Jan. 31, 1907 to John and Meta Logeman Luschen on the family farm near Bennington. He lived on that same farm until retiring in 1973. He then moved to Fremont.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. He was an active member there until moving to Fremont. He was past president of the St. John's church council at the time the present building was built. He had also been a member of the church's Lutheran Club.

He had also been a member of the Farmer's Union, the election board and the school board, all in Bennington.

He had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont since 1973. He was a charter member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club of Fremont and had been a member of the Fremont Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 200.

He married Jorgena Hoier Braesch in Bennington Feb. 17, 1951.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lori Braesch; a sister, Mary Luschen and five brothers, Fred, Henry, Otto, Arnold and Bill

He is survived by his wife, Jorgena; three stepsons and step-daughters-in-law, Delbert and Margaret Braesch of Arlington; Duane and Helen Braesch of Bennington and Richard and Bessie Braesch of Loveland, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church or St. John's Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
