Dorothy A. M. Heinssen, 100, of Blair, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Good Shepherd Chapel. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dorothy Amelia Faith Grabbe was born May 6, 1909, at Spiker to John and Anna Maria (Hovendick) Grabbe. She attended the Spiker School through 10th grade.

On Feb. 5, 1930, she married George Heinssen in Spiker. They farmed in the Spiker area for two years, and then moved to a farm in rural Herman, where she lived for 67 years.

In November of 1999, Mrs. Heinssen moved to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. She had been a member of the Vacoma Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She spent her life as a home-maker, and enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, raising chickens, baking bread, and enjoying time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fredrick and Betty Heinssen of Blair; daughter, Mary Faith Hansen of Lake Zurich, Ill.; granddaughter, Deborah Pence and Dolly Fairley; grandsons, Fredrick Heinssen, Jr., Ted and George Hansen; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay Heinssen, Fredrick Heinssen III, Philip Hansen, and Kenneth Pence; step-grandchild, Jamie Borsh; sisters-in-law, Elaine Grabbe of Blair, and Katarina Heinssen of Cadenberge, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in September of 1976; brothers, Edward, Opel, Leland, John “Bob”, Max and William Grabbe; sisters, Violet Babbitt and Hildred Wiese; son-in-law, Stanley Hansen; nephew, David Babbitt; and step-great-grandson, Jared Borsh.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
