Funeral services for Leo C. Helmsing, 81, were held Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at the Shiloh Methodist Church, in Foristell, Mo.

Leo C. Helmsing was born July 21, 1924, in Kennard to Harry and Geneva Helmsing. He graduated from Kennard High School in 1941.

He joined the Navy, where he trained to be a highly specialized artisan of submarines, and later served his county in maximum security projects. He later worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft.

In November of 1945, he married Verna Utermann of Kennard at the parsonage in Arlington. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last November.

Mr. Helmsing is survived his wife, Verna; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sandy; daughter, Pam and fiancé, Ron; four granddaughters; brother, Harry, of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Howard Cook of Kennard; sisters-in-law, Helenea Jensen and Wilma Plugge, both of Arlington, and Dorothy Plugge of Blair, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established for Vision Christian Church in Foristell.
