Olaf J. Nelson, 49, of Battle Creek, Nebraska died Friday, June 17, 1932 at 12:35 P.M. at the University hospital in Omaha, after an illness of several months.

Olaf J. Nelson, son of Lars P. Nelson and Christena Nelson, former Blair residents was born in Fremont, Nebraska, June 14, 1883, moving to Blair in childhood where he received his education. He was confirmed together with his sister, Mrs. Paul Paulsen of Blair at the Lutheran church in Blair. Later in life he joined the Lutheran church of Genoa, Nebraska of which he was a member at death.

He was united in marriage to Rose Larsen of December 7th, 1904. To them were born a daughter Erma Maxine and a son who died in infancy. Ten years of his life was spent in the mercantile business and about fifteen years of banking.

Surviving are the widow, Rose Nelson; daughter Erma Maxine; foster son, Marvin Nelson and a son-in-law, Elmer Bierman; all of Battle Creek, Nebraska. A sister, Mrs. Paul Paulsen, Blair, Nebraska and three brothers, Larich Nelson, Rosenburg, Oregon; Earl M. Nelson, Leigh, Nebraska and Alvin Nelson, Irvington, Nebraska and also many other relatives and a host of friends.

Olaf Nelson, better known to his friends and relatives as “O.J.’ was a true, loving and faithful husband and father as well as a loving and sympathizing brother and friend. He was always ready and willing to extend a helping hand to those in distress. He was noted among his host of friends for his cheerfulness, and his kind words of encouragement and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Nelson was married on December 7, 1904, to Rose Larsen, and to them were born three children, Erma, Maxine, and a son who died in infancy. Ten years of Mr. Nelson’s life was spent in the mercantile business and for about fifteen years he was a banker.

Surviving him are the widow, Mrs. Rose Nelson; two daughters, Erma and Maxine, a foster son, Marvin Nelson; one son-in-law, Elmer Bierman, all of Battle Creek, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Paul Paulsen of Blair; and three brothers, Larich Nelson of Rosenburg, Oregon; Earl M. Nelson, Leigh, Nebraska; and Alvin Nelson, Irvington.

Throughout his young manhood and during his business career, Mr. Nelson earned the reputation of being an honest, industrious worker whose business interests did not permit him to forget the virtue of charity. Always willing to extend a helping hand to those in distress, he was also known for his cheerfulness and his encouragement and advice to those less fortunate than him.
