Former Blair resident Marie Hemmingson of Walnut, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 6, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, with interment in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in West Point.

Marie Emily Hemmingson was born Jan. 11, 1914, in West Point to Henry and Sophia (Peatrowsky) Vonderheide. She attended school at Guardian Angel in West Point, graduating in 1932. She went on to college at Wayne State Teacher College in Wayne. She taught school in rural West Point from 1933 to 1936.

On June 16, 1936, she married Emanuel M. Hemmingson in West Point. The couple moved to Omaha in 1941, then to Blair in 1982. Mrs. Hemmingson moved to Peace Haven in Walnut in 2002.

She enjoyed her family, playing piano, and playing bridge.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Bobbie Hemmingson and Thomas and Barbara Hemmingson, all of Omaha; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Dave Pierce of Litchfield, Minn., Carol and Bruce Rosenbaum, and Ruth and Gary Blum, all of Walnut, Iowa; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Donald; and a brother, Ben Vonderheide.

Campbell-Aman Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
