Constance “Connie” Hemen, 74, of Fort Calhoun, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

A memorial Mass has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Interment will be in the Huffton (S.D.) Cemetery.

Constance Hemen was born May 24, 1931, in Huffton, S.D., to John and Cora (Holtslander) Cain.

In June 1949, she married Loren Hemen in Groton, S.D. Mrs. Hemen also lived in Britton, Columbia, and Sand Lake Game Refuge in South Dakota, as well as in Jamestown, N.D., Cleburne, Texas, and most recently, in Fort Calhoun. She was a member of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lynne Hemen of Fort Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Brian Malard of Cleburne, Texas, Jean and Mark Lien of Arlington, Texas, Lynn and Kevin Tabor of Fargo, N.D., Jane and Dale Martenson of Cleburne; sisters, Inez Gulsvig and Peggy Pierson of Britton, S.C., Betty Beck of Claremont, S.C., Marge Donovan of El Cajon, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren; and a son, Barry.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
