FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. LOFTIS WERE TUESDAY

Funeral services for 74 year old Mrs. Floyd (Hazel) Loftis of Arlington, were held Tuesday morning, April 6, 1982. Mrs. Loftis died early Saturday morning at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Loftis had been at a meeting in Tekamah Friday evening. Later they returned to Blair and started for Arlington during the Friday night blizzard. Mr. Loftis related that the visibility was so poor that they could hardly see the edge of Highway 30 as they went west toward Arlington. Near the railroad overpass between Kennard and Arlington, Mrs. Flotis reportedly rolled down the window to see if she could spot the edge of the highway. Mrs. Loftis breathed in the cold air and complained that she was having trouble breathing. Mr. Loftis stopped, hailed down another car that went to summon the Kennard Rescue Squad. Arlington Fire and Rescue Squadsman, Bob French, came along and tried to help Mrs. Loftis until the Rescue Unit arrived. The Rescue Squad administered oxygen and First Aid enroute to the hospital.

Mrs. Loftis was born on March 17, 1908, Haigler, Nebraska. She previously resided in Springfield, Nebraska before moving to Arlington in 1962.

Mrs. Loftis was a member of the Arlington Community Church and the Women’s Fellowship.

She married James W. McKenzie on May 30, 1926. He died July 20, 1961. She then married Floyd Loftis on September 9, 1962 in Osceola. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Harold McKenzie of Torrence, California and Lawrence McKenzie of Bryon, Calif.; two stepsons, the Rev. Marlon Loftis of Syracuse and the Rev. Eugene Loftis of Omaha; one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Mavis) Rowan of Berthow, Colo.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Roy (Janice) Trotter of Versailes, Mo.; Mrs. LaVerne (Shirley) Schmidt of Arlington; and Mrs. Ken (Iva) Johnson of Fremont; one brother, Meredith Stone of Dallas, S.D.; one sister, Mrs. Oliver (ghelen) Nelson of Great Bend, Kan.; 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Gerald Senn officiated and Reckmeyer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Burial was Wednesday in Springview Cemetery at Springfield. Graveside services were at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church, the Kennard Rescue Squad, or the Arlington Rescue Squad.
