LEONARD LOFTIS, 87

Funeral Services for Leonard Loftis, 87, of Blair were held 2 p.m. Monday, June 26 at First United Methodist Church in Blair with burial in the Herman Cemetery. Leonard died at the Crowell Home on June 22, 1989.

Leonard Lee Loftis was born to George and Ruth Fletcher Loftis on May 22, 1902, west of herman, in the New England area. He attended the New England school through ten grades. He also attended a Bible course in Lincoln and returned to Herman to farm.

On October 10, 1923, he married Mary Skinner at Logan, Iowa. Together they raised four daughters and three sons, Barbara, Mary Helen, Betty, Ruth, Tom, Leonard Jr., and Alan.

Leonard and Mary were married nearly 50 years before her death on September 25, 1973.

Leonard later married Lillie Chamberlain on January 30, 1974. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1983.

On November 17, 1984, Leonard married Frances White in Blair, Nebraska.

Leonard spent his life farming in the Washington County area, retiring for a short time at Cherokee Village, Arkansas. He returned to Tekamah and later to Blair.

Leonard’s lifetime interests, outside of farming included helping to organize the Washington County Farm Bureau and serving as President and Legislative Chairman. He served for 15 years on the Herman School Board. He helped to organize the Herman Federated Church and received his 50 year pin from the Methodist Church.

He led a 4-H Club for a number of years. He also served on the County Extension Board; the PCA Advisory Committee; and the ASC Committee. Leonard was recognized by the former Governor Val Peterson by being appointed an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Frances; four daughters and three sons: Mary Helen )Mrs. Carl) Launer, Omaha; Betty (Mrs. Dale) Finch, Casper, Wyoming; Ruth (Mrs. Larry) Nelson, Arlington; Barbara Loftis, Blair; Thomas Loftis, Long Beach, California; Leonard Loftis Jr., Herman; and Alan Loftis of Seward, Nebraska. Leonard is also survived by his step-children, Earl Chamberlain, Nebraska City, Nebraska; Mrs. Lyle (Mary) Trede, Carson, Iowa; Mrs. Harlan (Darlene) Safley, Blair; Mrs. Richard Brummer, Omaha; by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Loftis, Arlington, Nebraska and Freeman Loftis of Blair.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; wife Lilly; and three sisters.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
