ARLINGTON - - The funeral for G. Floyd Loftis, 93, of Arlington will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Community Church in Arlington.

Loftis died Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He was born Oct. 25, 1899, in Herman. He grew up there are graduated from New England High School near Herman and the Gaydou Commercial College in Blair. He worked as assistant manager of the Herman Farmers Union for six years, then farmed for 18 years in the Herman-Blair area. In 1946, he moved to Arlington and purchased a café and soda fountain, which he operated until 1970.

Loftis was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200; the Good Sam Camping Club; served as a church deacon, trustee, and Sunday School teacher at Arlington Community Church; and served six years on both the Washington County Selective Board and the Arlington Village Board, during which time the Arlington Auditorium was built. He was a sexton of the Arlington Cemetery for 18 years and for two years served as chairman of the Arlington Community Club. He was an employee of the Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington for 28 years.

He married Florence Johns Dec. 13, 1921 in Omaha. She died Aug. 29, 1960. On Sept. 9, 1962, he married Hazel McKenzie. She died April 3, 1982.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Eugene Loftis; four daughters, Janice Trotter of Lincoln, Mo.; Shirley Schmidt of Arlington; Iva Johnson of Fremont; and Ruby Loftis of Syracuse; two stepsons, Harold McKenzie of Torrance, Calif.; and Lawrence McKenzie of Medford, Ore.; a step-daughter, Mavis Rowan of Alma; 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, two grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.

The Rev. Lee Milligan will officiate Tuesday’s service. Visitation will be at the Reckmeyer Moser Funeral Home today from 3-8 p.m.; Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. The family will received friends Monday at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery.

Heidi Sell and Traci Loftis will light the candles.

Memorials may be made to Arlington Community Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
