The entire community was shocked and grieved to hear last Thursday morning that Mrs. John Henrichsen, Sr., had taken her own life some time during the preceding night, her body being found about 8 o’clock Thursday morning in the water tank on the Carl Rohwer farm. Mr. and Mrs. Rohwer with their, daughter, Miss Katie, had been in Ft. Calhoun Wednesday evening attending the picture show, leaving Henry Rohwer, Jr. at home with Mrs. Henrichsen. She retired to her room at the hour usual to her, and appeared to be in the best of health and spirits at that time. Her act of self destruction was carefully planned. She left two letters, one to her stepdaughter, Mrs. Rohwer, and one to her stepson, Louie Henrichsen, stating that she was tired of life and did not wish to become a burden to anyone. She put a raincoat over the other clothing she wore, placed the hood of it on her head, leaving her face exposed, and firmly tied a string around her neck to make sure the hood could not slip down, and ended her imaginary troubles by drowning.

Mrs. Henrichsen had resided at the Rohwer home for several years and always appeared happy and contented in the congenial household, where everything possible was done for her well-being and comfort by the family.

Mrs. Elizabeth Fink Henrichsen was born February 25, 1850, near Pittsburgh, Pa., died August 22, 1929, aged 79 years, 5 months and 22 days. At the age of ten years she came with her parents to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she made her home until she was married to John Henrichsen, in 1905. Mr. Henrichsen died April 20, 1920.

During her fifteen years residence in Ft. Calhoun she became endeared to one and all. Her pleasing personality, her sweet and loving disposition won for her the respect of young and old, and was “Grandma” to all.

She was the last of a family of three sisters, and was the mother of two sons by a former marriage. Immediate surviving relatives are a niece, Mrs. Clarence Smith, of Council Bluffs, and a cousin, Miss Lina Densizer. She is also mourned by her step-children: Mrs. Mary Rohwer of Ft. Calhoun, Mrs. Anna Moller of Grant, Henry Henrichsen of Blair, Wm. Henrichsen of Plattsmouth and Louie Henrichsen of Omaha.

A large number of friends from this vicinity and elsewhere attended the funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. Underwood of Blair at the Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.
