After a three weeks illness of pneumonia Joachim William Kay, for many years a resident of this vicinity, passed away at his home here on October 18.

He was born in Hohenfelde, Holstein, Germany, on March 23, 1854, and was married in 1877 to Johanna Hagedorn. Three sons were born to them, one dying at the age of 16 years. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Kay came to America and after a few weeks stay in Omaha located in Ft. Calhoun. Mr. Kay and family owned and lived on farms east and west of Ft. Calhoun and near Bennington, and 19 years ago built and removed to their present home in Ft. Calhoun.

Mr. Kay was a quiet, unassuming man, of sterling worth and character, the dependable kind and whose word was as good as gold.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, William and Carl, of Bennington vicinity, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers, Hans and Carl, of Ft. Calhoun, also survive.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church here Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Runze of Bennington officiating. Burial was in the German Cemetery near Bennington.

#2-23 Oct., 1930 - The Enterprise

Wm. Kay, Sr., who has been seriously ill for some time, died Saturday evening, Oct. 18. Mr. Kay was 77 years of age. He is survived y his wife and two sons, Carl and William of Irvington. One son, Otto preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church here on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with interment in the German Hall cemetery. The following were pallbearers: Detlev Kruse, Henry Rohwer, J. A. Landis, August Schroeder, Herman Klindt and Adolph Frahm. Mr. Kay was a kind, unassuming man, who was respected by all. The bereaved wife and other relatives have the sympathy of this community. Hans and Carl Kay of this place are brothers
