Former Blair resident Frank W. Hengeveld, Jr., 89 died May 7, 2006, in Eugene, Ore. A memorial service is planned at a later date in Blair.

Frank William Hengeveld Jr. was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo.

He received his bachelor of arts from Dana College and his master of arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a master teacher throughout his career, teaching chemistry, mathematics, creativity and science education at Dana College and UNL. He also worked for a period of time as a chemist for Diamond Alkali Painesville, Ohio.

His passions were teaching, science, problem-solving, gardening, sailing, travel, conservation, and children. His devotion to trees was honored with the planting in 2004 of a life-celebration tree for Frank and his wife, Helen, at Black Elk-Neihardt Park in Blair.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Catherine (Michelson) Hengeveld of Eugene, Ore.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lonna and Larry Meston of Coburg, Ore., Pamela and Tom Wetzel of Gresham, Ore., Susanne and Richard Miller of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Donna Hengeveld of Seattle, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Gericke of Franksville, Wis.; one granddaughter, three grandsons; four nieces and two nephews and their

Memorials are suggested to the Helen and Frank Hengeveld Science Scholarship Endowment, initiated by Mr. Hengeveld in 2004, at Dana College in Blair.

Memorial services for former Blair resident Frank W. Hengeveld, Jr., 89, of Eugene, Ore., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in Trinity Chapel at the Durham Center at Dana College in Blair.

Mr. Hengeveld died May 7, 2006 in Eugene, Ore.

Please join his family in honoring his life, sharing treasured memories, and enjoying fellowship during the coffee which will follow.

Memorials are suggested to the Helen and Frank Hengeveld Science Scholarship Endowment at Dana College.
